Adam Kirsch’s work seeks to unravel the intricate connections between perception, memory, and our conflicted relationship with nature in a digital age. Through experimental video and sound, his projects create immersive spaces that explore the psychological layers shaping our experience of beauty and distraction. By presenting moments of ancient natural splendor with digital decay, Kirsch invites viewers to confront both the distortions of self-narratives and the fragility of memory.

In filtersArtifacts, Kirsch presents Lake Superior’s waves in a perpetual cycle of visual degradation and reconstruction, symbolizing memory’s frailty and resilience. Often perceived as stable, memory is depicted here as inherently imperfect, subject to reinterpretation through shifting perceptions of past, present, and future. Each video—unfolding over time scales from minutes to a full year—mirrors the erosion of memory, the obsolescence of technology, and the ways we reconstruct meaning amid impermanence.
Kirsch’s work invites exploration of the cognitive filters that shape our views of the world.  His process evokes a cosmic balance, capturing the tension between nature’s purity and human intervention, filtersArtifacts reflects on how we harm and honor the histories of landscapes we cherish, urging viewers to engage deeply with their surroundings while embracing the inevitable distortions of perception.
