Chunyi Shen | Digital art
Chunyi Shen, originally from Chengdu, China, is a London-based transmedia artist. She holds a master’s degree in Digital Direction from the Royal College of Art. Her work has been exhibited internationally at prestigious venues, including IRCAM at the Centre Pompidou, Outernet London, and London Craft Week, and has been featured by CGTN Europe.
Chunyi Shen is a transmedia storyteller based in both the UK and China, whose work explores posthuman and rhizomatic landscapes, investigating the intersections between living beings and the nonhuman world. Her research embraces multispecies ethnography, bringing attention to contested issues by foregrounding a diverse array of subjects, including microbes such as slime mold, stones, and bacteria.
Spanning multiple digital mediums—including AI co-creation, moving images, poetry, sound, and virtual reality—Chunyi ambitiously crafts networked, nomadic spaces where the organic and inorganic, natural and virtual, coexist symbiotically. Her creations are often accompanied by metaphorically evocative soundscapes, seamlessly bridging Eastern and Western philosophical perspectives.
Through her projects, Chunyi delves into themes of embodied phenomenology, psychopathology, posthuman ethics, algorithmic bias, microbial intelligence, marginalized voices, and the boundaries between physical and virtual realities.
