Elisa Pinto Abreu | Painting

Elisa Pinto Abreu was born in Tenerife in 1994 and obtained her degree in Fine Arts from a university in Tenerife. She has resided in various cities such as Granada, Bilbao, where she pursued a Master's in Painting, and Madrid. These urban environments exposed her to new concepts, initially centered around female empowerment, which later evolved into the theme of "Body Consciousness."

Since 2023, Elisa has been living in a village located far from the city in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, taking residence in her great-grandmother's house, where she has established her studio. The core of her creative process revolves around the self-perception of her body, manifested as a continuous self-portrait devoid of figuration or contemplation. Engaging in a performative process that resembles meditation, Elisa consciously observes her posture, ailments, and undergoes a series of experimentations collectively termed as "Body Awareness." This concept, originally coined in art by the artist Maria Lassnig, serves as the foundation for Elisa's artistic expression.

Drawing from the "Body Awareness" concept, Elisa produces pieces through performative videos. She carefully selects stills, edits them, and prints them onto various canvases, subsequently intervening with painting. Additionally, she creates oil paintings on canvas inspired by her bodily experiences. Her works seek to establish connections and reflections on her own body, incorporating experimentation with identity and the surrounding environment.
