Ezra Asohan | Installation
Ezra Asohan is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores religious fundamental spaces. By utilizing the materiality of these spaces, Ezra focuses on the objecthood of each of the pieces that speaks to a specific kind of American spiritual experience. He is concerned with how objects are able to hold onto our memory and how these objects possess the ability to skew our perceptions of what is real and what is imagined. He uses the same objects that can still be found at work in these lush, spiritual planes. The space in which the materials act as placeholders for memory and past experiences. The space in which fervent belief systems thrive, often in isolated, rural, and undisturbed places. Thinking about how the origin of these spaces lives within the act of magical thinking - gives way to the thought process of how these objects and materials convey both new and old messages, often at the same time.
