What do we buy or do, when in need of leisurely distraction? Anger Management depicts the fun and ridicule of a Western pastime; It’s an actual existing game. The car still seems to be the important symbol of status and financial value that one would never imagine confronting with demolition hammers, for sheer fun. An alienating human experiment, the absurdity of the situation, may make the viewer both frown and snigger.

From hesitant strokes with a hammer to full-on focused destruction mode amongst the actors. A solid angle sequence invites the viewer to take an observer’s eye through all the unfolding stages of the destruction, without forcing a judgment.

JORAM BLOMKWIST

Artist biography

Joram Blomkwist (1979) grew up in Hilversum. After he studied for art director at the junior academy in Amsterdam, he assisted national and international photographers.

For ten years, he works as a commercial photographer, but the love for his artwork started to grow. In 2016 he started his projects.

His first own project was Crushed Cars and marked the start of his independent art-photography, which now finds its intensification in his Talking Trash and Anger Management. All projects revolve around the relationship between human and used products.

At the moment, he works with Amsterdam Water management to create an artwork with all the bikes taken out of the canals.
