Jz Aamir (Dubai - Pakistan)
Calligraphy, Photography & Light painting.
Jz Aamir 37 years old Pakistani who has been living in Dubai for 11 years. He is a Marketing Specialist by profession.
Calligraphy has been his passion for as long as we can remember. Art was his favorite subject in school. The strokes and curves in Urdu Calligraphy fascinated Aamir the most and were pure art in his eyes. For Jz watching professional calligraphers ending the thick strokes with thin lines was utterly satisfying for his heart.
Aamir used to practice writing on a ‘takhti’ (wooden board used for writing) with a ‘kalam’ (pen made with bamboo to write on a takhti) while watching the local TV show called "Khattat" (Calligrapher) when he was about 12 years old. That's why he used to get extra marks for good handwriting in the class :) he still watch YouTube videos and visit local galleries for inspiration. he has also took classes to learn Arabic script called Wissam script, developed by the famous Iraqi calligrapher Mr. Wissam Shaukat.
Jz Aamir developed interest in Photography when he moved to Dubai and saw the amazing architecture of mosques & skyscrapers. From there he got interested in capturing abandoned buildings which took him to Ras al Khaimah. The artist also went to Pakistan and started visiting the places which were lost in history. The idea was to bring them back to life with his Photographs and explain the history behind the places.
At age of six, Aamir started experimenting Light Painting and created Orbs, drawings of different types, graffiti of different styles, since then, Jz Aamir express himself in a very unique expression between Photography, Calligraphy and Light painting all together.

يا رب - Ya Rubb - God حب - Hubb - Love
يا رب - Ya Rubb - God : Light Calligraphy - Long exposure Photo, Straight out of the Camera. No Photoshop.
My prayers to God through my passion for light calligraphy. This was shot during the trip to Al-Dhaid, which is 85km away from Dubai, UAE. It was almost time for the blue-hour in the morning. I parked my car on the side of the road and did the camera setup. I let the car pass-by to get the red light trails from a car in the composition and then wrote the words “Ya-Rubb” which means God in English. I wrote letters using white LED light.
حب - Hubb - Love : Light Calligraphy - Long exposure Photo, Straight out of the Camera. No Photoshop.
My love for nature through my passion for light calligraphy. This was shot during the trip to Al-Dhaid, which is 85km away from Dubai, UAE. As the blue-hour approached I knew I had very little time to shoot before the sun starts to rise. Took me several minutes to compose the shot to get mountains in the back with the clouds moving over the head. Suddenly a word “Love” came to mind. As there was no car on the road I stood in the center of the road and started writing “Hubb” which means Love in English.
النور - Al Noor - Light
النور - Al Noor - Light : Light Calligraphy - Long exposure Photo, Straight out of the Camera. No Photoshop.
This was shot inside the Lahore fort, in Lahore city, Pakistan. It contains 21 notable monuments, some of which date to the era of Emperor Akbar. The Lahore Fort is notable for having been almost entirely rebuilt in the 17th century, when the Mughal Empire was at the height of its splendours and opulence. Today no one lives there and darkness has taken over. My idea to visit those places again is to bring them back to life with light calligraphy. Hence the word “Al-Noor” which means Light in English.
