Mathijs Hunfeld | Digital Art, Fashion design

Mathijs Hunfeld (Dutch, 2000) is a London-based interdisciplinary artist whose practice examines the intersections between fine art and consumer culture. Hunfeld explores themes of fantasy, desire, and identity through a conceptual and critical lens, frequently appropriating everyday objects to reveal the tensions between glorification and downfall in contemporary consumerism. He often creates branded bodies of work, blurring the line between art and consumer products. His work engages with the performative aspects of pop culture, employing satire and irony to critique emotional dependencies and self-sabotaging behaviours within late capitalism.

Hunfeld holds an MA in Contemporary Art Practice from the Royal College of Art in London and a BA in Product Design from ArtEZ University of the Arts in the Netherlands. He has exhibited internationally, with notable showcases at the TATE Modern and the London Design Festival. In addition to his artistic practice, Hunfeld has curated exhibitions, developed their visual language, and managed promotional efforts. His projects have been featured in various publications, highlighting his critical engagement with the aesthetics and narratives of consumer goods. Hunfeld encourages a deeper understanding of the cultural and emotional forces shaping contemporary identity by recontextualising mainstream objects. Life is addictive.
