Mi Ding | Sculpture, Installation
Mi Ding is a multidisciplinary artist and designer known for her innovative exploration of spatial dynamics through sculptures, installations, and multidisciplinary practices. Endorsed by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Arts Council England as a global talent, Mi's practice bridges art, technology, and sustainability, creating light-responsive works that engage audiences on emotional and experiential levels.
Rooted in her architectural background, Mi's creations explore the interplay of light, space, and structure, using eco-conscious materials and cutting-edge techniques. Her works invite viewers to experience shifting visual expressions influenced by sunlight, varying lighting conditions, and changing perspectives. Mi's recent project, Stellaris, showcases her expertise in folding techniques and material experimentation, resulting in ethereal sculptures celebrating the dynamic relationship between light and form.
Exhibited internationally, including in China and the UK, Mi's works have been featured at prestigious events such as the Woolwich Print Fair and the A4 Art Museum in Chengdu, China. Collaborations with institutions like the Centre for Print Research highlight her interdisciplinary approach, combining print techniques with her spatial and sculptural background to create innovative three-dimensional works that reimagine the boundaries of traditional 2D printmaking. Through her practice, Mi continues to push the boundaries of perception and form, crafting transformative spaces that inspire connection and wonder.
Stellaris is a dynamic sculptural series that explores the interplay of visuals, geometry, and materiality. By utilizing folding techniques and material experimentation, the project transforms simple 2D forms into ethereal sculptures that shift in appearance depending on light, color, and perspective. Incorporating reflective surfaces, translucent films, and gradients, Stellaris invites viewers to engage with its evolving visual effects, offering a transformative spatial perception experience and emotional connection.
