Serge Gualini | Digital art

Born in Ixelles, Belgium, in 1968, Serge Gualini trained at the La Cambre Institute of Visual Arts in Brussels, where he explored a range of techniques from figurative drawing to digital art. Since 2022, he has embraced artificial intelligence as his primary creative tool, blending aesthetics and conceptual depth to redefine artistic expression. For Gualini, artificial intelligence acts as a modern paintbrush, enabling him to explore themes like identity, memory, and the nature of reality. His process involves orchestrating algorithms to generate evocative imagery, which he refines through post-production and assembly, balancing technology with human intuition.

Gualini’s evolving practice has been showcased in significant exhibitions worldwide. His solo show RaveNaissance at Galleria Pescheria in Cesena, Italy (2024–2025), exemplified his ability to reimagine classical themes through AI, while his work at Desktopia: Artificial Intelligence and Innovation in Turin (2024) highlighted his innovative approach to digital art. He has also embraced virtual platforms, presenting AI-generated oil paintings in collaboration with The Immersive KIND via Oculus VR.
In addition to exhibiting at international events such as the PhEST Photography and Art Festival in Monopoli, Italy, and the MKF Digital Art and Fashion Exhibition in Melbourne, Gualini has engaged in unique projects. These include a 2024 collaboration with East Anglia students to recreate his AI works using 15th-century techniques, resulting in a documentary film. Earlier, his participation in Museumnacht Amsterdam (2023) placed him among global pioneers of AI-generated art.

Through his works, Gualini invites viewers to reflect on the intersection of art, technology, and perception, challenging conventional boundaries and redefining the role of artificial intelligence in contemporary art.
