Lera Ost - Portrait

Lera Ost is a contemporary Ukrainian artist and curator, now living and working in the Netherlands. With a Master’s degree in Fine Arts, her work redefines the boundaries of surrealistic Dark art, enriched with elements of ugly art. Lera’s deeply conceptual creations merge traditional techniques with groundbreaking materials such as Vantablack and thermal-reactive paints, producing multi-layered pieces that invite viewers into profound dialogues with their inner worlds. Her art reflects universal challenges — war, addiction, social and environmental crises—transforming these themes into spaces for healing, hope, and discovery. By exploring the emotional and psychological landscapes of darkness, pain, and transformation, Lera reshapes human struggle into powerful narratives of resilience and growth. Notable exhibitions include the group show Labyrinth of Emotions (2024) and her solo exhibition-performance Liberty in Kyiv, both of which garnered critical acclaim for their emotional intensity and conceptual depth.

Lera Ost’s artistic practice spans painting, sculpture, and installation, all marked by an innovative use of materials and a commitment to conceptual depth. Her works frequently incorporate interactive elements, inviting viewers to become active participants in the artistic process. Currently based in the Netherlands, Lera draws inspiration from the country’s rich culture and natural beauty, channeling these influences into projects that bridge personal experiences with universal themes. Her transformative art seeks to provoke reflection, foster emotional connections, and encourage audiences to explore vulnerability, resilience, and growth. With a distinctive voice and a bold approach, Lera Ost continues to make a significant impact on the international art scene, captivating audiences with her ability to turn darkness into a catalyst for renewal and discovery.
