The artist often uses the body as a medium. These events often require the participation of others or the audience, have a humorous or satirical effect, and provide the viewer with a reflective perspective. Yang Yu focuses on exploring the importance of social conflict and cultural studies, often shifting between social roles and enriching his artistic expression through role-playing. The focus on witchcraft and religion provides the artist with a way to delve into the inner nature of social structures and cultural beliefs. It also provides a profound and introspective way for the artist to communicate with the world.
Witches symbolize a mystical power, and the artist has chosen to bring them into the public space to call for a re-examination of the legitimacy of social norms through a dramatic interpretation of power structures. Through this performance, the artist hopes that the audience will be able to reflect on social norms, power structures, and the role of the individual within them in an experience that transcends traditional frameworks.
