Ludovic Fleury (b. 1997, lives and works in Paris) works primarily with oil painting, digital media, and installation. His work delves into the complexity of bodily experience, exploring tensions inherent in what Susan Sontag called “the revolt of the organs.”
Ludovic Fleury develops a pictorial and installation-based practice that examines the connections between the body, the living world, and society. At the intersection of post-phenomenology and contemporary theories on the living, his work investigates the tensions between control and chaos, visibility and invisibility, matter and dissolution. His recent work reflects on the experience of chronic illness and how it alters the perception of time and the spaces one inhabits.
The compositions of his work feature suspended figures caught in ambiguous environments, where organic forms - flesh, nervous system, bone - intertwine with elements drawn from the modern world.
Juxtaposing different degrees of opacity by superimposing layers of material, he creates unstable spaces where the body blends, resists, or disappears.
By exploring the body as a site of transformation and vulnerability, Ludovic Fleury seeks to challenge conventional representations of illness and embodiment. Through this approach, he questions the impact of contemporary disorders on health and our perception of the human condition.
Mingxuan Zhang's artistic practice centres on the fluidity and de-symbolisation of the body, exploring the complex relationship between the body, space, and gaze through distortion and absence. She creatively incorporates ready-made fabrics from the real world into her paintings, capturing the transition between the “virtual” and the “real.” She currently lives between London and Hong Kong.
